The next best thing...

July 10, 2008
OK, we have a confession to make: we have NEVER gone camping in our married life. For those of you not keeping track, we just passed 7 years. We have planned a trip for August, so our friends, the Stephenson's, offered us the use of their property during Malcolm's vacation to do a test run with the kids. This sounded like a great idea until we realized that we owned no camping equipment (I'm pretty sure that we owned a tent and some sleeping bags at one point, but between my intolerance of clutter and several moves, they have dissappeared.) Well, we weren't going to let a little thing like no shelter ruin our camping fun, so we decided to get together with our friends anyway and have a campfire with some pretty creative smores. I think Malcolm's fave was coconut marshmallows with peanut butter cups.

Aidan and Uncle Phil feeding the chickens. If you know Aidan, you know he LOVES animals and he had a great time with the chickens.

Karina had a blast swimming in the pool. Last year she did not want to go into water that was deeper than her chest even with me carrying her, so this was a big step. This face cracks me up!

Malcolm having the previously mentioned cocnut, peanut butter cup smore and Aidan all tired out.

Karina roasting her marshmallow.

Aunt Dianne snuggling Aidan.

If I lived closer to you I have a TON of camping stuff I would let you borrow. We have, ever year we have been married, gone camping my birthday weekend. And yet again this year we are going for 5 days!!! YEAH I am so excited, although, I have not been this pregnant while camping, so we will see how fun it turns out being!
Looks like you had fun! You should try going yearly:) It is fun!

Confession?!!!! Richard would say smart! We have been married 35 years in September, and we have never gone camping either! I think that is what I love about girls' camp so much! He says he did a lifetime's worth of camping in the Marine corps! Have great fun!

I hate camping! I like the idea of it, but the bugs, heat and humidity, and lack of indoor plumbing just makes me lose all desire. Your pics are great. You sure look like you had a great time!

Love Ya,
Maria
