Having Fun at the Beach!!

We interupt this tropical storm to bring you pictures of a lovely beach day! If you've watched the weather or live around here, you know we are currently enjoying the remnants of Tropical Storm Christobal---crazy high winds, torrential downpours, lots of thunder and lightning (quick, get in the shower before the lightning starts again!), and (so rumor has it) a tornado or two. Oh, how I miss the beach!

When I was little, if my parents said "We're going to the ocean." it almost always meant only one place: York Beach, Maine. In my teen years, I didn't understand why we always went to Maine. Now that I am a parent, I really appreciate the less touristy, family friendly atmosphere of Southern Maine, so on July 7th (a date planned many months ago with my mother) Malcolm and I took the kids to York Beach. I LOVE beach pictures and made sure to take loads of them before the kids got into their bathing suits and got covered in sand.

Someone before us was kind enough to start building this little stone wall. Karina among the rocks.

Karina and Aidan searching for good building stones.

Aidan "remodeling" this portion of the stone wall.

...if only you could see her face...

Aidan was a bit more hesitant with the ocean than his sister, here he is scoping out the situation.

Squishy sand.

Waiting for the waves...

...and running through them!

More squishy sand.

Leaving our mark.

Checking out footprints.

We spent a few hours at the beach, visited the Goldenrod for salt water taffy and home-made peanut brittle, then finished off our day with a visit to Nubble Lighthouse! Karina called it "the real lighthouse" as opposed to the small replica in the beach parking lot which she called "the pretend lighthouse." Our trip to York was great and we are excited to go back again and again.

I love going to the beach! So sad I can't go this year:( Thanks for the pictures, so I can live through your family. The kids and I went for labor day 2007, and we had a blast!
