We're expecting again! And this one comes with a story. In the spring, I hurt the same knee I had surgery on in college. I put off the surgery until fall, wanting to wait until Shawn was a year old, so on October 19th, I went in for surgery. Everything went well, except the damage was worse than they had expected and instead of the projected most-likely 2 weeks on crutches, I was sentenced to 6 weeks non-weight bearing and two more weeks with crutches and two more weeks after that with a brace. I can't express properly how grateful I am for all of our friends who came together for us to take care of our kids with Mom out of commission for so long.
Anyway...5 weeks into recovery, I start feeling a little queasy and on Thanksgiving day, I can't stand the smell of bread, so on black Friday, Malcolm was kind enough to pick up a pregnancy test and sure enough...we're expecting...we think about 3-4 weeks. A couple of weeks pass and I'm having some problems, so I call my doctor and he orders a hormone level test to make sure I'm not having another miscarriage and he calls me back and says that my hormone level is nice and high...over 120,000. My response is..."I have no idea what that means." He says, "It's a good healthy 3 month level." My response "WHAT???? I thought I was 6 weeks!" So he ordered an ultrasound to see why my hormone level is so high...it's either further along than we think, or it's more than one. The result of the ultrasound was a healthy 11 week pregnancy(due July 2nd)...which places the conception date between October 9th and 14th or 5-10 days BEFORE my surgery....surprise! The doctor says that the surgery was SO early that there's only a VERY small risk of any harm to the baby. Everything should be fine. Meanwhile, I'm in the process of topping my previous "morning sickness" experiences, so please excuse my online scarcity. I have to see my OB every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the time being for vitamin injections, and occasional IVs.
I'll do another post with kid's pics if I can find my camera!
